Compass vs. StreetEasy / Zillow

Does anyone have strong views about the potential for either of these two companies to become the “Amazon of Real Estate”? StreetEasy seems to be executing in a methodical way and engineers who work there seem to have high confidence in the company. Compass has a dream team in terms of engineering and capital raising, but has had some missteps on technical and management challenges. If you were going to work at one, and invest in one, which would you pick?

I know nothing about Compass but used to love StreetEasy before the Zillow takeover. SE was for NYC people; Zillow felt like it was just for SFH owners in car-dependent suburbs. This was in 2012, but Zillow didn't even have transit info!

@Hollowed - not your fault, of course. But I really liked SE back in the day and was unhappy about the takeover.

Word in the industry is that the listing system for the NYC market has serious deficiencies. Is the issue functionality or missing data or what? Also hear that analytics tool is not accurate. Any further insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Dude, the CRM was launched like 3 months ago - it’s effectively brand new. Not perfect by any stretch, but it’s a damn good V1. With engineering & tech as the focus for ‘19 I see this improving significantly.

Yeah, I guess we’ll see what happens in 2019. Just saying that the current state of tech at compass is pretty bad overall. I know of a ton of agents that don’t even bother with using the tools because they are so bad. That doesn’t bode well for the company.
