I watched a segment from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver about McKinsey. It really had me thinking. Is this a good company to be associated with? https://youtu.be/AiOUojVd6xQ?si=1n_OQcW6hfgAnWB4
What do you think? Lmao.
Nope - I just read 'When McKinsey Comes to Town' and it tells you all the shady and unethical shit they have been up to since they were founded
Any company that makes profit is unethical to a degree. We’ve come so far into picking up injustices against someone somewhere that it is impossible to exist without offending someone or being unjust to someone. Not a single company is ethical if we use that high a bar. None.
Whether a company is ethical or not has nothing to do with its prestige, hiring bar, or reputation, if that's what you're implying.

I just watched the John Oliver segment (honestly hilarious btw). The company has been around for decades and they have consulted on thousands of engagements and I feel like it is statistically inevitable that you get greedy partners who agree to take on unethical cases for a fat paycheck. Not defending these terrible things but we’re talking about a global company with thousands of employees. It’s not fair to classify the entire company as ethical/unethical based on some specific cases.
Would generally agree but also depends on how egregious those specific cases were. Some of the examples the Oliver segment mention are pretty awful.
That’s what bothers me. They acquire one of the best talent pools in the world because of their selection process, but their impact on the world has been negative when you consider the opioid crisis, climate crisis, and the destruction of the middle class. It seems that McK folks seem to agree that there has to be a change in how it conducts businesses. I think this is great, but no word on if anything changed. At the very least be transparent about its business. Can someone tell me what their enduring impact is? Don’t tell me barcodes. McK mission statement: “Our purpose: To help create positive, enduring change in the world.” Articles: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/03/business/mckinsey-opioids-settlement.html https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/27/business/mckinsey-climate-change.html https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/02/how-mckinsey-destroyed-middle-class/605878/
