I have one interview left for an L6 position at YouTube. I believe there is a compensation committee that determines your comp level. I don't have any prior experience at any of the FANG companies. Would that affect my offer? Would I start at a lower rate than my peers?
You should clear the offer first before you start thinking about comp. It'll make it less painful if it doesn't work out! (I didn't do this before and it hurt.) But to answer your question, it's all about competing offers / leverage. Figure out the max they'll pay for your level / role given public data on Blind and elsewhere and ask for that. Never share what you currently make and be prepared to walk if it's not fair.
Thank you for advice, I have been working in the industry for some time, this is all new to me.
