Uh oh: President Trump leads Biden 49% to 43% in a two-way race.
This is for a 3-5 YOE software engineering position.
Location?
I’ll give you a hint. Average rate of 1 bedroom apartments is 2500
Bay area it is!
Nice! Thanks for sharing. The bottom end of that range is more than most Americans make so it sounds very competitive.
Not terribly uncommon for Midwest US
That’s pretty much the norm in the Midwest lmao
Helps to explain why so much software is absolute dog shit. Hackers are absolutely salivating at the mouth over what they'll be able to do with code churned out by the 67k masses.
Sounds like government
Govt now pays around 100K for IT3-4 or some levels.
This sounds like government? Defined benefit pensions are very rare elsewhere. Pay seems about right for government.
If someone can guarantee me an inflation adjusted 70K every year, even after retirement, I can't say I ain't be tempted.
So join a Bay Area City government. San Francisco pays 125-158 for "journey" position. A principal can get up to 213. But you have to put 13% of your salary for pension and retirement health insurance. Pension could be up to 75% of your last three years averaged (assuming 30 years of service). The downside is you don't have access to your pension as a lump sum, you just get your salary (which can be a bummer if you know you are dying not long post retirement)
120-160k base is what I’d call competitive.
Is this for Canada ?
In lcol probably. Mississippi?
SW engineering sucks. Low impact (you don't save lives), decreasing pay (come to EU and 100k$ gross for 10+ yoe taxed by 50% is the top salary), poor wlb (constant grind and learning of new skills).
That’s why you need to find a role where you are driving impact for the company’s products. If a engineer works for a health insurance company for example, he is not the priority therefore the money won’t be great. When you are the priority then you get paid more. It’s still better than nursing or pharmacy, and gets you to retirement quicker than even a doctor(if you do it right and join tech)
lol doctors make peanuts nowadays, anyone who says otherwise doesnt have relatives in the industry in this generation. Easily make over double as much as them even when I was a junior.
