Has anyone gone from something like technology management consulting to engineering? I like math / science a lot and I feel like I have limited impact as a PM / consultant and wanted more control in a better culture. And a higher salary wouldn't hurt (TC: 90K). what's a good strategy for getting interviews and passing them? Is it worth going to a boot camp? I interviewed with Google for SWE and got to the onsite phase, but they asked me to re-interview next year.

I did exactly that. Brush up on your coding. Work on different projects and put them on GitHub. A lot of consultants tend to have a good breadth of knowledge but lack depth so working on identifying any weakness you might have there will be a good idea.

Thanks! Did you find that consulting experience helps in your current role? I’m doing a few side projects and they are probably what’s getting me some interviews, I’ll focus on them a bit more now.
