Which one looks better on resume, if you’re the recruiter or interviewer ? I had one contractor offer at FB, and one Full time offer at a small no name company. Guys help me decide ! Edit: It’s through a third party vendor, so I am a FTE under that vendor and works at FB. They put this title on LinkedIn “Engineer @ Facebook via venderName”

That means being an employee of the vendor company. We have vendors at Google. For those vendors, Google is simply a client. That’s not the same as being a contractor at Google (vendors can’t put “Google” in their resume as their employer because that would be lying, but independent contractors can).
Depends on what you’re doing, but I would say contractor. Meals, shuttle and a number of other perks are available to all. The networking is also important in the long term, I have contractor friends who I refer to internal roles all the time, there is the added benefit of being able to reach out to hiring managers and chat directly. If you have no intention of joining FB long term, you can disregard most of what I said. I also have a friend who isn’t allowed to work for the client (FB) for 2 years after they leave the current vendor, so something else to factor in.
I appreciate hearing that you connect with contractors as friends, different than what I hear from other horror stories that treating contractors like 2 tier citizen. Joining FB definitely is in one of my bucket list. But other than FB, I wonder if your contract friends got more opportunities at other places by putting FB on the resume ?
I don’t see why they would get less opportunities, then again, depends on the specific role maybe.
What role is this ? In Eng I see close to no contractor in FB. Otherwise, as a contractor the only difference between a FTE is the badge collor, is not like in other places where even the email signals that you are temporary in the company
Badge color? Unless this is new, I don’t believe we differentiate badges
The background for badges is a shade of light blue for contractors. The difference is not striking, and , it has been for some long time. I think
If you’re in the bay area I don’t think you should put too much thinking into what recruiters would be thinking of your resume later (they chase college kids, why would they phase you out!). I’d suggest that you put more focus on the kind of work you’d do at fb compared to that you’ll do at the small company. Unless you’re gonna be building an impressive system at the small company and get some leadership experience, I’d say take the fb route. You’ll learn so much more and you’ll have more impressive stories to tell your future employers than working at a no name company. Respect wise, fb treats contractors very fairly and I never felt someone thinks of me a second class citizen there. I’m happy to help answer any questions about contracting at fb.
Contractor = Temp employee, by a fancy name. As a temp employee, you have very minimal benefits and labor protections. Companies like to hire contractors (temps) because it provides them with flexibility to lay-off workers during restructuring. As a contractor, you would NOT be eligible for a severance package should the company decide to restructure. Your contract could be terminated at any time. It’s risky. Additionally You may be missing out on crucial benefits like HSA/FSA, 401k matching, Wellness/gym reimbursements, and GOOD health insurance. (Staffing agencies’ healthcare is often crap.) Take the FTE.
