I’m a contractor and love everything about working at Pinterest except being a contractor ...with a lower title than my job responsibilities suggest and the lower pay that goes along with that, and it’s starting to cause problems for my non work life. I’m currently interviewing for a role at another company with a huge increase in pay and benefits. At what point should I let me manager know so that I can converted and aligned?
Interesting, heard Pinterest was know for high pay. Guess doesn't apply to contractors?
My role evolved after I started, largely because I saw needs that weren’t being filled. So pay is decent for the title, but the title isn’t reflective of the work
Let you manager know that you would like to be converted and if he have any open positions. No point telling him that you are interviewing if you don’t have an offer yet.
That was what I assumed, but wasn’t sure if giving more of a heads up is a courtesy thing
It's a courtesy thing, but it will more likely harm you than help you. Perhaps you can just ask for a title change, or even just put the correct title in your CV.
Just speak to your hiring manager and check if there are any full time positions now or in near future. If he or she is interested, they will most likely give you a better offer as they have seen your work. Also, DO NOT mention even if you are interviewing, it never works.
Thank you for the tips, the last part especially. I have asked a few times before once 6 months ago and ones 9 months ago my contract has been extended twice so far. It’s a small team so he’d have to fight for headcount
Not sure how it works in Pinterest but usually HMs can figure out a way especially when the business is growing. Else u always have the option to look outside, may be he will counter once you find an offer

How is it causing problems in your non work life? Friends judging the size of your TC?
Ha no, I guess it’s actually both work and non work, I took a title downgrade coming here, so now I’m further from my career goals on that front, closer in others. But I need to move out of my current place, and my contract ends at the end of the year, if I can’t count on income, or an increased income I’ll have to move somewhere without knowing where I’ll work shortly after. And the financial portion limits where I can live. I already commute from South Bay to the city
