When seeing others got promoted or got a upleveling job, it made me feel sad about my current position. Where I feel I’m devalued in terms of title and TC. Internal promo takes time given limited promo cycles and things to battle, but otherwise everything looks good. Then I interviewed externally, still waiting for results. Not sure if anyone has similar feeling of gapping with others or devalued. How to deal with it?
Stop the comparison!!
Screw internal promos.. if you're not getting it naturally then jump ship to higher level
If you don’t feel valued and are seeing others in similar roles getting promoted in similar time frames, go somewhere else
Been there before. Gotta say it's not a good place to be and i totally understand what you are going through. What I did is to reminisce what I achieved in the past and told myself I would be OK. Your career is a journey, sometimes you would have to take a step back to move forward 2 or 3 steps. Compare yourself with other is necessary but don't let it drown out your confidence.
You are so right. Probably you have already gotten out of that place, but might be an uneasy journey. Perhaps for me, other than what you suggested, hopefully to get me some immediate relieve. Long term wise, I think I still need to push for promo or interviewing for better opportunities. So I can eventually get out of that mood.
TC or GTFO😅
Don’t be jealous of people who got promo’d. They worked their balls off for extended period of time all to get a tiny bump in pay. Fools errand
Keep your head up! Comparing yourself against other people is unhealthy. If you want to shoot for promo next cycle, then tell your manager that you want to grow and develop on the team. Ask him if he thinks shooting for promo next cycle is realistic and what are the gaps you need to fill over the next 3-6 months to be considered. Your time will come!
Honestly, sometimes it hurts and i eat my way out of it
How? Want to learn some coping strategy.
There is always someone who is above you and a lot below you. It helps to realize how privileged we are working at amazon and other tech companies. You don’t have worse life but just a bad day. It will pass.
