Berkeley is the punchline of too many jokes about liberal excesses for me to take it seriously

Stanford

Stanford engineering undergrad doesn't stand out to me. I think they leave some courses for graduate 5* level that should be senior 4* level undergrad. I think Berkeley, Cornell, CMU, some others, candidates are generally better prepared at undergrad level. Stanford with masters is good.

i was just trolling. Tbh between berkeley and cornell it's splitting hairs in terms of quality.

Both are similarly good for engineering from interviewing candidates. The rest is personal preference, location, financial aid, cultural fit, etc. Ivys generally are more gentle on the students with more help, smaller classes, etc, whereas in UCs, there's less individual attention and you are primarily left to sink or swim. I think if your plan is to work and stay in the Bay Area after college, spending 4 years in a more rural northeast area with 4 seasons might be a good way to diversify life experiences. .

Both should be good enough as far as education for SWE industry goes. But Cornell is in the Ivy League club so the name carries a lot more weight for bragging rights and networking opportunities, like meeting rich kids or politicians.
