Costco?
I have been living in California for 8 years and never shopped anything from Costco. What am I missing?
A lot but avoid going on weekends
Seattle speaking here. Costco is the best, a lot of high quality goods at deep discount. It is a treasure hunt, because many goods are one time or seasonal only. Their wine selection is incredible with prices about more than 20% cheaper.
Costco used to be top line, but nowadays they're throwing bullshit organic produce everywhere for marked-up prices. Churros, meat / seafood, and rotisserie chicken are solid though.
Yeah, I cant say that their everyday organic produce is cheap. But, it is sometimes cheaper, sometimes on par, and at times they offer something quite rare and high quality such as Shitakee mushrooms.
Shop -> earn rewards -> redeem rewards for membership fee -> repeat 🔁 Gas is comparatively cheaper, better quality, easy returns, car rentals
The lines for fuel are so darn long though!
Go in the evenings around closing time
It's good if you have a family and need to buy things in bulk. If you're a single guy that lives alone, probably not worth it. It can be cheaper, but you have to buy a lot of everything. It's also hectic. The parking lot, the gas lines, the inside, the pizza line, all of it. Also, they pretty much only provide one brand most items, so if you like having multiple choices, or usually buy a specific brand, you're better off going to a normal grocery store.
Their return policy is alone worth it

Food court chicken bake and pizza. Almost everything Kirkland (Costco's brand) is high quality. They have really good nuts. Also, as much as I love Costco, note that not all the bulk items they sell offer the best cost per unit compared to not buying bulk.
Not missing anything except only a few % cheap gas. All else you can get elsewhere cheaper or fresher.
