I accepted a job at Google and when I told my current employer (a tier 2/3 tech company) they said they would counter to keep me (haven't gotten official numbers though). I am torn as to whether I should stay or go. I currently have great WLB and a great manager/colleagues and I'm having a baby in a few months. My work is interesting, but Google's would also be. Google obviously has more cachet, but I think my current company might offer more flexibility for WFH long-term.
TC dude
Google has paths to WFH.
Can you elaborate
Yes I could but you should just search blind
Why stay when your current company should have paid you your fair market value?
This
Never stay with a counter. There is no loyalty in this and they will replace you for cheaper when they’re ready.
Google. More prestige. And if you’re company is gonna counter because they value you that much, why not pay you that before? Why is it only now they realize they should pay you what you’re worth? They took advantage of you by underpaying you this whole time. Go to Google, it’ll set you apart on your resume, give you new experiences, and at least they’re paying you what your company should’ve this entire time.
Go to Google and stay at least 1 year. If you love this company, come back at higher level and offer.
Never ever accept a counter
Go to Google—and bring others 😆.
Come over. You can still maintain connections with your old colleagues. First 6 months will be low pressure mostly - depending on team.
What is your current company? It matters a lot to the answer
