Gave my notice today and manager asked me to stay and dicuss my new offer. I am yet to have a meeting but would love to know what should be my response. 3 cases : 1) They offer slightly lower than the current offer 2) They offer the same 3) They offer more than the current (Highly unlikely) Would like to get opinion on either of these three cases Should I stay if counter offer is same or more? Current TC : 150K Offer TC : 230K (Almost 50% bump from current TC) Counter Offer TC : Yet to Decide YOE : 4 Years
As someone mentioned few days back in response to a similar post : Never. Accept. Counter. Offer. Period. Once they know you are a flight risk, you would never know how and when they would hit back at you. Just leave - politely and amicably.
Is there any harm to see how much they can offer in counter offer?
+1 never accept counter. However, being Intel, I am supremely confident that they will not counter offer a 4YOE employee 230k. There are 20 year employees not making this. (Sad but true). Time to move on. Wouldn't even waste the time IMO to listen to a counter. Manager will laugh at anything that high. Say thanks and goodbye.
How long you been at Intel?
Currently at Microsoft
I think the stat is for most people accepting counter offer from current company leave within 6 months.
Leave or laid off?
Leave
Don't take counter offers to stay - very risky
Should I at least hear their offer?
Sure why not. But be sure to remember the reason you interviewed elsewhere and am leaving
How long at ms?
1.5 years
Which company are you going ?
Amazon
Congrats. I would say move on. What level ar msft ? And can you split your tc at amazon ? L5 ?
Everybody on Blind says not to accept counter, but I wonder how many are just parroting what they hear from others. Examples of people getting fucked by this? For example, if somebody currently in Seattle gets a big offer to move to Bay Area. In the unlikely event they get matched, why not stay where they're wanted and basically getting more after factoring in taxes and cost of living?
Totally agreed with your response. However, I am not moving anywhere so we can rule out the location factor
Agree, this advice often comes from some recruiter opinion piece that says how's it terrible to accept a counter.
Don't worry. Microsoft will not offer you a counter offer. Unless you are a rock star. In the best case they will offer you some extra money but less than your current offer. Most likely your manager will just try to talk you into staying "for free" - like better opportunities and blah-blah.
Never ever accept counter offers after giving notice
First thought- that place is toxic. GTFO! We don’t know what you do or if you like it there, where the next offer is from, were you looking for a new gig, or ... ?
Thanks Updated the post for TC Check it out
