I got an offer for 230k from a company whose marked valuation is 3 times as of PayPal. I told my manger about my decision to leave so manager gave me counter of 245k. I want to leave but my manger is getting emotional, asked me to reconsider. I have already accepted the other offer and was thinking If I stay here at PayPal will this negatively affect my reputation? they might think I am not trustworthy and lay off me later? YOE: 3 ( starter my career at PayPal) Current TC: 170k
Never accept a counter offer.
+1
But why? Is there any disadvantages about it or just a general rule? It will be more helpful fpr many like me to get some real insight about counter offer.
Most people who accept counters end up leaving anyway within 6-8 months. If your manager is relationship you both value, you’ll work together again. If they neg you… better to know early. Be gracious, stay in touch, move on.
Don't accept counter offer, you'll be marked as flight rush
you cheated and nothing will come out good if you can salvage. Why did you tell your current SO about how good your new one is in bed?
Take the other job. After 1 - 2 years see if you really miss PayPal that much compared to where you will be. If you want to go back they will probably take you, only now you'll be in a better position to negotiate terms.
Leave... If you are worth the money, then they should of given you that to start off with!
i think they should probably leave too but not for that reason. the reality is managers cannot track market salaries and give constant raises to everyone on the team as the market salaries fluctuate. you get paid a discount for not job hopping - trading the comfort of the known for the risk of the unknown.
Never accept manager puppy eyes
accept if their is real action😂
I know folks who had taken counter offer and doing well. So it all depends on your manager and org. You are getting counter offer because you are valued
Which job do you want to do more? You have no obligation to stay if you don’t want to. From how you wrote this it seems you want to leave.
