Edit: Stocks were recovering overnight when I posted this originally. I spoke too soon, it appears we are still in the middle of it. Cases are leveling off in China (but I don’t trust their data), but growing exponentially everywhere else. Most places aren’t taking this seriously and will be overwhelmed soon if more aggressive action is not taken (compare exponential action of a virus to linear capacity of the government to respond). I have an intuitive understanding of how pandemics work from playing Pandemic Inc. Two kinds of pathogens can exist: ones that are highly contagious and ones that kill. Pathogens that kill burn themselves out, when the fatality rate exceeds the infection rate. It appears there are possibly 10 times as many cases and deaths in a leak by Tencent, in China. This virus appears to be not naturally occurring and Doctors in Taiwan believe it could be an engineered virus. CDC or FDA (I forget which), has a list of foods and items which we could have shortages of. For the current counts of the virus and recovery I have been using this site which I have been checking daily: https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 There appear to be two strains of the virus, one is more aggressive and more contagious. Covid-19 symptoms are not complete on news sites and WebMd. Symptoms include cough, fever, shortness of breathe and additionally may include nasal symptoms, fatigue. Having Covid-19 could vary from having the sniffles and feeling fine to: the worst lung infection you have ever had and barely being able to catch your breath after simple exertion such as walking. Risk factors are breathing disorders, smoking, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, immune suppression, AIDs, Cancer, and others. If you have any of these, you will be more likely to experience severe symptoms. People older than 60 have a significantly higher fatality rate and typically experience the more severe version of the disease. People younger than 40 have a really low fatality rate (<2%, but worse than influenza). The younger you are the lower the fatality rate. There was an interview on Fox, the guy seemed okay, but I’m not sure if they are cherry picking. I couldn’t find any other accounts of the disease and the subjective severity. One should assume that the virus can live outside the body. We still don’t know how long it can survive outside the body. I cannot believe Pence was within 6 ft of J Insley, when he arrived in Washington. I have low confidence in our competence to detect and contain this virus. Covid-19 is in Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland. Even if you haven’t been out of the country it is possible you could have contracted Covid-19. Wear gloves, try not to eat out, try not to take mass transit if you can. To answer my own question: The hysteria of Covid-19 helps the medical-industrial complex, more hysteria helps medical companies make more money. End Edit. Stocks are recovering according to WSJ Covid-19 test kits will be widely available soon and anyone who thinks they have symptoms can now be tested at many locations (the previous restrictions were removed). From a first-hand account of someone with Covid-19, it is not that bad (someone who is not me). If you are on Blind I’m 99.99% sure you will not die of Covid-19 if you catch it. From what I can tell is: the quarantine methods appear to be working. We don’t have enough data to know how well contained it is. US is working on a vaccine which could be ready in 4-6 months, Israel could have theirs ready sooner. There is a hypothesis that in the summer, Covid-19 will not be present in the northern hemisphere. But, if it is not contained in the southern hemisphere (Africa, Australia, South America), Covid-19 could return next Fall 2020. More could be done for governments to work together here to prevent that from happening (if that is possible). Covid-19 has symptoms similar to viral pneumonia. Cough, shortness of breathe, fever. If you have nasal symptoms with sore throat and a fever it is probably flu instead. But it is possible to have both flu and Covid-19 at the same time. Something I wonder: If the earlier panic caused by the virus caused a dip in the stock market, doesn’t this also hurt the parent companies who own the media companies who instilled panic with their hyperbole and sensationalism? With the revelations of swine flu, SARS and Covid-19, will there be more efforts to develop systems to identify pathogens faster? Will we see a universal pathogen detector and do you think in the future we could have the capability to quarantine and get rid of influenza?
I stopped reading after seeing 99.99% and 4-6 months vaccine. wasted a minute of my life🤦♂️
Did you had it yourself? It’s nice to know if you are better. Can you explain how did you go about getting treated? Also is cough a major symptom?
Nevermind saw that someone else had it but still a viable question
I dont think you can blame the media for instilling fear. Fear is a normal response to an unknown threat.
I too sometimes make up stuff on the internet
You sounded just like my manager, all fluff
Microsoft employees have no work to do that’s why they post shit things
You may have a .01% chance of dying, but what about your parents or grandparents when you give it to them?
Stocks are recovering ? what ?
