Coworker wants to steal my projects

long story short, a coworker of mine has been showing clear signs of being a bit too much up in all my business recently. i have this high-level project that ive been working on, and the person in question deliberately told me they plan to steal it from me so they can have a promotion. i plan on keeping my project. whats the best way to ensure i get to keep it? would it be odd to talk to my manager about this exchange?

Make two projects. One that's yours and another that is decievingly garbage. Let your coworker take the terrible project and present it. Then fill in the gaps with yours. Be the hero and teach a lesson to this asshat. If your manager is cool tell them to get some popcorn

Scream it’s mine! They have to give it to you.

Or just make a blind post about it, that will definitely get you it

Finish the project before your coworker does. If your manager is aware and allows it then he either thinks you can't get it done in the time frame or he wants to race both of you and see who comes out with the end outcome.

Socialize the architecture, plans milestones ...come off as the leader

You should probably talk to your manager about it. I don't think that would be weird
