Got an offer from Cox automotive for a Software Engineer-2 role. Location- Atlanta Base-$95,000 Relocation-$5000 Masters with 3 yoe. I feel this is a lowball and I was expecting atleast 105k. Please let me know if there is room for negotiation and how much can I ask. current TC: 110000 ( but this is with contracting, no PTO and benefits)
Location for the offer?
Mentioned in post. Atlanta
Seems okay for Atlanta. But a bit low maybe. FTE is much better than contract in general. There's more to it than TC like career growth and managers who care about your career
What do they do? They sound like a dealership
Not exactly. But they own some companies like KBB, autotrader and dealer.com.
Kbb and autotrader! Seems like a legit company
God damn. Worrying about 5k. Come to the bay and triple your salary
4 yrs ago what was the level u got? And how much yoe u had at that time?
Expect poor treatment and high churn. They offer unlimited time off, so they won’t owe you anything on your way out the door.
seems a little low. I’ve seen new grads (bachelor’s) get SWE2 85k with 10% bonus at cox. IMO ask for 115 + bonus, probably settle for 105ish + bonus.
New grad gets to level 2 immediately? Who gets the level 1 offer then? Maybe they count internship experience?
The only level 1s I ever knew there came straight from internship to full time. That and people coming out of their apprenticeship program
It’s pretty hard to evaluate the TC without knowing more about your background. 3 yoe might be enough to deserve more than 95k in Atlanta. But yoe isn’t the only thing in the formula. It depends on what you’ve worked on in the past 3 years. Whether you have grown and got promoted internally? Are you a good engineer to deserve and negotiate to 115k like atleng said above. Best game is to go interviewing elsewhere and find out your worth. But again, it’s Cox. You probably know they’re an Ok company for swe. They’re also not known to pay the best bucks anyway. So 95 might be good range? But feel free to do whatever you feel right. My gut says 95k is probably enough for you already. Masters probably doesn’t say much IMO. I’ve known some bachelors who graduated with really impressive internships under the belt and are totally better engineers than those with masters. The bachelors actually spent more years in school and had more time to get exposed to internship opportunities.
I'm currently a SWE2 here at an 84k base. TC comes out to 100k. I was promoted within as I started as a QA Engineer. I think there's always room for negotiation but you have to bring something to the table or go out and get a counter offer. Worst they say is no and you can take the original offer or walk. Let me know if you have any questions.
Yoe?
1.5 as a QA Engineer and another 1.5 as a SWE.
