Hey Blinders, let’s hear the roast to my resume. Trying to switch companies ASAP as JPMC moves way too slow and I want to be in a more fast paced environment. Have been working on a full stack hybrid mobile app using Swift, Java and Angular. Any feedback is appreciated. Blind Tax TC: 110K YOE 1.5 yrs
I would list the actual name of the local company for transparency
I do it’s just anonymized since it’s so small
Following as I have very similar experience in a Texas city. My resume is in a similar format as well. I work in Oil and gas though. TC: 119k Yoe: 1.5
Next year we’ll be in tech making 200k+ TC 💪🏻
That's the goal!! Gotta make that money before ai replaces us someday haha
So, this might sound crontroversial... but I think your chances of standing out with it are very small. If the jobs you're applying to have a lot of candidates (and right now, that's true for all good jobs), there will be many resumes like yours. Nothing wrong with them, but nothing impressive either. Imagine a hiring manager with 50 resumes more or less like yours, and they have to cut it to 10. Why would you make the cut? When folks hire for junior positions, they hire for potential, hunger, and someone willing to adapt and learn. What in there is hinting at those things?
On top of that, I'd list the bottom two as internships (then nobody will question them being short)
For sure, how can I make it sound impressive? I was thinking of adding a summary like “highly motivated individual looking for a fast paced environment etc” but I have always been against summaries in resumes. Could I inflate my bullet points to sounds more impressive? Any advice for that would be great. Let me know your thoughts. The main reason I want to hop is to learn more since jpmc is very slow but I don’t know how to make that apparent in my resume (the fact that I want to learn more and be pushed more through difficult and innovative work).
Biggest issue with this resume is the same with everyones who asks this question You have a lot of technology highlights which look great, but you aren’t digging into the business impact. To really get eyes on your resume you need to be able to measure what you do. Ultimately, companies like engineers that are technical but they expect a certain amount of depth baseline. The main interest is if you can make them money
I agree. I updated my resume recently to try to show more business impact. I added the time saving, 35% fewer support tickets and increase in user base to highlight that. (This resume is missing the % in the 3rd bullet point). Any other way I can highlight business impact? Especially since I’m not in a direct revenue producing team.
I was thinking, maybe add another project and reduce experience? I can create a full stack project real quick to add to the resume. If I get some real users would that be better than the jpmc exp bullet points? I’ve had ideas for a B2C application either way but I’ve been between practicing leetcode and actually working on that.
I'll be alarmed with so many job changes in so little yoe, you should rather stay in this place for a 1.5 yrs more
First job out of college. IBM was an internship and Small Company was a part time full stack dev while studying.
Tbf you have decent chance at entry level faang jobs with this resume
