Just wondering if there are any coding (bootcamp) instructors here on Blind who do/did it full time. Either under a company (Galvanize, General Assembly) or in teaching platforms (ie Udemy, Teachable, your own site) What's the experience like? Pros/Cons? Is it stressful, fulfilling? Was it sort of a stepping stone before you got an engineering role? For engineers who pivot to become teachers, was it a good change? #bootcamp #teaching #teacher #Instructor #teachable #generalassembly #galvanize #udemy
I went to a bootcamp and one person in my cohort who got hired to TA/Teach said it was a waste of his time when it came to eventually joining the SDE workforce. That being said I’m actually interested in teaching algos at some bootcamp but never have taken the steps to get in contact with someone about it.
Same with my bootcamp. TAs are typically former students.
Thanks! Yeah from experience, TAs usually are there for helping students debug, or rubber duck. Aside from reading other people's code, reviewing, debugging, i can see why it would seem a waste of time. Since he's not delivering anything, code-wise. But it seems that hes set on being an engineer anyways.
From what I’ve seen, I don’t get the impression that bootcamp teacher is a stepping stone to tech (assuming you were a former student). If it is, prob takes a lot longer. Doubt recruiters see working at bootcamp as equivalent experience to working in tech. Just try to get your first job
Yeah, now that you mention it, that does make sense. Its an education role rather than engineering. Although i have seen people who did the teaching gig for a bit before getting SDE. Hoping they could share that experience in this convo
