Cruise Interview Experience

start to finish : ~2 months offer: no recuriter back n forth for a month, identifying right group for me and so on Hiring Mgr screens me for EM role. Gives a go for onsites. Onsites set up, but two days prior they change their mind and want me to interview for IC tech screen over phone: No LeetCode. We designed a core data structure from scratch. pleasant experience, the guy really checked my skills and probed about some specific experience from my resume onsites: welcoming experience, I am not going to be able to share actual questions but give you all an idea of what was expected 1. System Design: , got into low level OS stuff, networking, security aspects etc 2. Coding: this was perhaps the worst experience. problem was loosely stated and interviewer lost interest half way through it. I found it hard for myself to stay focussed and I think although I finished the base problem, I blew it. also problem was not to be actually run in coderpad, the ChromeBook sucked to type on. I should have whiteboarded in hindsight 3. System Design: went really well, we agreed on all aspects in terms of latency, robustness 4. Coding: generic problem, with a broad goal. you can not complete the entire solution in time provided, however they test for interface design, OOP, partitioning of logic across methods etc I did really well here. again coderpad here but no real need to run 5. Behavarioal: I have been EM so it went more like a heart-to-heart EM convo. Went well. overall: I really liked the people, they are very knowledgeable and respectful, professional. I understand my shortcomings, but given another opportunity, I will interview with Cruise anytime. Also one of the few companies where I felt their screening process was personal rather than mere LeetCode.
