Cruise isn't mentioned here often. I'm a PM at lyft and a recruiter reached out to me for their marketplace team. Had a few questions about cruise: 1. what's the culture like? is it still a start up feel? 2. what's the comp like? competitive with tier 1 companies? 3. how are growth opportunities within the company?
Saw one of their test cars driving around van Ness without its headlights on at like 10:30pm the other day.
My friend works there, here's what he said: " 1. Definitely still feels like a startup. GM mostly lets us do whatever. HR is separate, etc. Some coordination issues with GM, but you'd have that with any supplier. 2. Comp is high, but probably depends on the skillset. Incentive structure is such that you can still get nice payouts for helping the company move forward. 3. The company is growing quickly, and generally prefers to promote from within. "
2/ pretty curious about their comp. they already got acquired by GM. Not sure if their stock is still valuable.
2 is bs. you get private equity (RSUs). There are no clear plan for ipo (at least it’s not announced internally). Other than that there’s no “incentive”. 90% of company gets “meets” or below (that number is their official target) and don’t get any comp bump. 3 is bs if you are IC. Engineers in this company don’t get promoted without competing offer
Have a friend who works there, he loves it. He's one of those weirdos who likes C++, though. Also, it seems like they all work a lot - it's the main focus of your life. They definitely pay well, though.
Have friends that work there who love it. Get paid great, tons of growth and no hiring freezes AFAIK they're hiring like gangbusters. I'm no expert on AV but they seem strongly poised market wise given the pieces they've got
I also got messages by Cruise; sounds like they went on a mass email reach out. GM and Lyft are partners...I see that as bad etiquette from the Recruiter, poaching someone on the same team.
By that logic, wouldn't it also be somewhat fair to say Lyft shouldn't partner with Waymo? (Not trying to snark just don't see the difference)
it's in our individual best interest that they reach out. why the fuck do you care about etiquette or "gentleman agreements" like apple and Google had? that will only suppress wages for us
For what it's worth I'm sure we're poaching the Waymo and Cruise employees as well
Anyone from cruise?
Sup?
Hi
I've been here a month and looking for a job.
Can you pls elaborate on your decision to leave 😬
In less than a week I was able to asses that entire company is a mess. Leaders (VP's) talk at you rather than with. Barking orders constantly at you. They could care less what you have to say in terms of ideas, yet will openly admit the company is doing it wrong. Most leaders run around like chickens with their heads cut off. It feels like they do everything backwards. I'd love to give exact examples but I'm scared they are probably reading this and instead of fixing things, they will retaliate against me.
They approched me several times earlier and I passed on them. Now Uber is going down hill, I contacted the recruiter. He was very cold and I pressed him a bit more to find out they had some sort of hiring freeze and HCs just being opened up.
Trust me they dont have a hiring freeze. people just arent lining up for engineers just now leaving uber.
