Does cruise require c++ or python experience? For interview. Do they expect to code in C++ if you have not worked in a while
C++ for av org only. Backend is Go, Python and Java depending on a team and usually not a hard req
How about teams in Seattle
Seattle teams are Infra only. So backend is mainly Go, Python and Java
What team you’re interviewing? I agreed it depends on team.. I think team in Seattle might be more on infra which means you don’t really need to know how to code in C++
Although, if you are interviewing specifically for AV org to work on a 100% C++ codebase and you have no experience with the language it might not be the right fit.
What do you mean by AV org? The entire company is AV, so I assumed all work will be AV related.
My experience was kind of in the middle. I stumbled through my phone screen a little bit since my c++ was so rusty, but I told them as much, and they were cool enough to schedule an additional phone screen a couple weeks later to see whether i had any c++ chops. I had had a week or so to refresh my memory by then and it went fine (I think I'm probably better than average at c++ for my team)
Cruise has two different engineering orgs: AV (autonomous vehicle - think robotics & hardware) is where you’ll find C++. The infra org (backend focused, product, ML platform, data, Eng Prod) is Go, Python, Java
How is oncall load and work life balance at infra teams? Managers look quite inexperienced.
