Hello . I have BSEE. I have 5 years exp all at ford. Started at 74k and now 86k base. Is the compensation good compared to others or time to move on?
SWE?
What role, level, and org?
No. Time to move on
Contract?
What is your position / role? Degree and experience aren't all of the story. But in general, yes, time to move on if you want more money. Staying with a company and in a particular role are going to get you a normal 2-3% merit raise each year. Taking your experience to a new role (promotion or more difficult/technical) or a new employer is where you're going to see 10%+ changes to your compensation. If you haven't done so, feel free to approach your manager about your salary. Find out what you're worth on the market. If you're happy and want to stay at Ford you can at least let your manager know that you've been looking and feel you're worth more. They might be willing to readjust your compensation to keep you happy and not leave. Just did this for an employee. He voiced concern that he was underpaid for his role. I spoke with HR and got him an 8k salary increase. Trying to get him another 5k. I will say your TC is a little low at my employer, and I know we aren't the absolute best when it comes to pay ranges. You can grow to the top end of a pay band in a role, but we always hire right at the middle of the range. That said, you'd be 5k-10k higher here at your experience.
No that is pretty low. You can easily get >$100k at GM or a tier 1. I’m BSEE, 6 YOE, in a non-SWE role, metro Detroit, non-contract, tier 1 supplier and my base is more than 20k higher than yours.
You can find the pay bands for your level on Life@Ford. Unfortunately, the merit increases are very low, and if you don’t ask for a raise, can mean you’re well below market for your field if you stay at Ford. Ask for an intra-band raise raise from your manager, and ask if there are plans to transition your role to HTHD (high tech high demand). There are exciting changes happening at Ford, but we’ll see how quickly things change.
Very low. I know some new FCGs that get paid 76k. The ones with masters get 85k starting out.
I have less than 2 yoe at GM and am at 90k base. Not even a SWE. You could get more here or leverage it for a raise at least.
