couple of questions - i found a principal role that is really ideal for me in Google Cloud, but i’m concerned it only lists Ireland as the only location. 1) how flexible is google these days about location? i live in an area with a google office, so it’s not like i couldn’t be in person if necessary. 2) i know this app is 98% engineers and this is a non-engineering role, but is Principal usually a L6? is it usually an IC? TC: i couldn’t even feed a baby elephant with these 🥜 YOE: ~12
Principal is L8 I think. It's very very hard to get in as L8.
really? even as non-engineering? this seems honestly really odd that it would be an L8 role with no reports just to do cloud pricing.
If it's just cloud pricing why wouldn't a senior or staff do it? If they need a principal they would have a bigger scope for the role. I am not very aware of non-engineering but it should be hard at that level.
ah thank you! do you happen to have any insight on how strict they’re being about location? i mean, it’s all remote now ofc but i don’t want to maybe get a job that makes me move to another country in a year
Location strictness is very team dependent. My team is already very distributed, so we’re not too picky. As long as you’re on one of the 5 locations we’re in, we’re happy. If you want to be off by yourself somewhere, there’s a process to request that. Performance history is a factor in that process though, and I don’t know if we’d be open to having a Noogler off on their own location. You may as well ask the recruiter/hiring manager.
great advice, thanks! i just wanted to see if it was “hard stop, no option” or at least some level of flexibility. this is a role that is very tailored to my skill set and experience, and i’m excited to apply for it but i didn’t want to waste anyone’s time (myself included) if it wasn’t even a possibility at Google.
did u get the offer ? care to share the numbers?
Principal of what?
This is a cloud pricing role, so depending on the company usually is a hybrid of marketing strategy and finance.
