I’m seeing a lot of AI companies open offices there. OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepMind, xAI and today Microsoft AI announced its opening there. What’s going on? I thought the UK was in turmoil after Brexit
yeah, they are developing their new ai project dental-hygiene.ai
Also bland-food.ai
Also weird-accent.ai
yes
London isn’t second in anything really these days.
Deepmind before Google acquisition was built out of London. Cambridge and Oxford boast of supreme AI researchers which companies want to poach.
Like ARM too... Anything good gets bought out and take overseas and England gets fucked
It totally makes sense as competitors would anyway hire them. The golden rule of research hubs are "clusters" - stay within the cluster like New York, SF, Seattle, Boston in the US. London in UK. Anything that doesn't give too much edge to competitors. And add to that, research is a cost center and London is cheaper than US.
London is a 3rd world shithole...
The replies to threads like this really show how ignorant Americans are of the rest of the world
