I have been thinking of getting Solar recently, my pge bill has been around $180-200, mostly due to EV charging (~500kwh). My heat is gas. I got quotes from Tesla, SunRun, Sunpower and local vendors using energy sage. Tesla and some local vendors are at least $10k cheaper than SunRun and Sunpower (being the costliest of all). My requirements are around 8.5-9.6 kwh system to produce around 9000+ khw a year as we plan to add a pool later. I have heard mixed reviews about Tesla, my neighbor has Tesla panels and he has had no issues for 3 yrs but online people are talking otherwise. What should I be considering? Blind tax: TC: 800k household combined Yoe: 10yrs #Solar #solarpanel
Sunrun sucks balls.
You should base your decision on cost/kwh. This is different than total cost because of the price and production of the materials used.
Is this your forever home? It'll take likely upwards of 20 something years to start to realize any savings. If you're doing it for the environment.. Well more power to you.
Tesla is a pita to deal with, and subcontract jobs out to random vendors. If you are going to watch them and are ok with hassling them to fix shit they break, it will work out ok.
Solar panels add up to no good. Think of as an investment to climate, that’s it. Every case is different. They require maintaining every 6 months.
I just installed solar using local vendor. I would suggest to get quote from couple of local vendors as well. My research so far: Tesla panels are not the best and they take very long time to install. My friend paid 250 2 months back and his installation date is in May. If you are going for Tesla, ask someone to refer you. You both get $250. Regarding local vendors, you can get best panels for the same rate. LG panels with enphase micro inverters is the best combo. for me, it tools around 2-3 weeks so get permit and installation.
I got Panasonic. Best decision 2.7/KWH. Tesla is however cheaper. I have heard they use some Chinese panels that are not that great but hey you are covered by Tesla!
People who have voted for Project Solar: did you use them?
I got sunpower. About 20% more expensive than Tesla but you get amazing service and they cover and control all sorts of issues. Happy to refer.
I've heard of Tesla but none of the others, so i voted for them 😃
Thank you for your vote
