Senior SWE offer at Vimeo

Hey everyone, haven't seen much talk about Vimeo around here so interested to hear your opinions. I recently got accepted to Senior Application Engineer on Core SaaS at Vimeo NYC, still waiting to get the actual numbers for the perlim offer (I got verbal approval that I passed last round) - I'll update when I hear back. What are your thoughts on the company? How would Vimeo compare to others (assuming they aren't really competing with FAANG? How about other tier 2s)? What should I expect as far as TC? I have competing offers from other smaller startups and from another tier 2ish company for senior position. Also still interviewing at G (pending onsite). I have 3YOE at an unknown org, but gained a lot of good experience there (smart people, high standards).

Whoops, been a while since I updated. here. The offer was a real low-ball with no stretch to it, 150 base, 10% annual bonus, 7500 SARs / 4yrs. I declined and moved to a better offer :)

Thanks for updating, In their defense, 150 is good for 3 YOE, itā€˜s the lack of sign on or any stock options make it a bit bad Vimeo is apparently a great place to work for now, sad to see TC a bit low

UPDATE: 7500 SARs / 4 Years or 1875/year is actually a LOT. Vimeoā€˜s parent company is IAC, and IAC share is up about $85 from one year ago Example, in one year Amount awarded = 1875 * 85 = $159,375, it just doubled your base salary. Now TC = 150 + 159. Are you sure you were lowballed, or did I assume something wrong?

tl;dr you've got it all wrong. Spent a few years there. It's based on an internal market valuation of Vimeo, not IAC's publicly traded stock price. IAC sets Vimeo's price at x. If IAC decides the company is worth more the following year, then you get (y-x)*25% of the SARs in your first year. I started with 15,000 SARs. The strike price was up $2. Left after vesting 50%, got $15k on departure. They don't offer refreshers either. Third rate tech comp at best. My opinion is they keep comp low to better position themselves to get acquired.

Bumping this up (Vimeo was valued at $2.75B Nov 5)

Nope that sounds about right, IAC did have a great year (or two). It was nonetheless beat by a different offer I ended up signing (tc was better formulated, position and fit were better for me).

LinkedIn theforce Aug 15, 2019

Are the SARs based on IAC? Or Vimeoā€™s actual evaluation?

Vimeo.

TripAdvisor hodlbtc Aug 15, 2019

309k projected TC for 3 YOE is better than Google wtf???? Yes thatā€˜s important to know, IAC or Vimeo?

LinkedIn theforce Aug 15, 2019

Well, if itā€™s IAC, the 5 year average is about 36, not 85. It was just a crazy year last year for them. So you need to redo the math there with an average | min | max scenario. One year it was basically flat, so about 5-10. Thatā€™s way less than G, which is pretty much guaranteed stock $ + brand.

Vimeo judoKai Sep 18, 2020

Totally incorrect, Itā€™s based on Vimeo valuation.
