Highest comp number ever reported on Levels FYI is 470k in NYC for someone with 2 YOE. I’m surprised that’s the highest, I thought mid-level to senior+ levels would be much higher than this. Can anyone provide insight into what the NYC comp looks like, especially for a mid-level SWE (Google L4 equivalent)? #deshaw
You get the intangible perk of a shared life experience with Lord Bezos
2 yoe should not be paid less than 800k
Trading firms are not going to give big checks to people outside of the industry. What are you going to do, negotiate up a 400k offer with your 230k tc at Google L4? Their minimum tc probably beats most things you can get in tech. You basically need another trading firm to negotiate (ideally citadel).
Some firms just have a culture of being lowkey. People in finance share comp less willingly than in tech. DE shaw composite returned 24% after fees last year. They're sitting pretty As to what comp looks like for swe hires that do not have finance background, the good firms will decide to beat your tech comp, but not by 2x, 3x. You don't initially bring any specific additional value to the firm if you're a generalist swe. It caps out at roughly 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x larger when you become specialized and demonstrate value add
I was at DE about 20 yrs ago. My comp was close to $2M with 8YOE.
😮😳
28 YoE and still on blind? Congratz if true, I find it a bit hard to believe (the TC part, not YoE)
