I represent a "minority" community in tech, and I do support diversity but not at the cost of talent. Diversity or equality inclusion is critical, but it's often misused. I think it's good to have DEI at school or college level and give everyone a chance, but once any individual graduates, everyone should be part of the same pool. In schools or college also, it could also be better if DEI is implemented based on financial reasons instead of race, color, or gender. Gender is something that needs to be specified, and some better outlooks are required for queer community as they dont get needed support. In an ideal way, everyone should feel valued, respected, and given equal chance to work, promoted regardless of background and identities. Personally, I have seen that hiring bars is lowered for certain minority groups, including female candidates in various organizations. Not only hiring, DEI plays important roles in promotions. Many are promoted just to showcase that females or minority groups are leading an organization. Promotion should be based on employees' skills, experience, and performance. Organizations need to remove the bias of DEI when it comes to promotions and support the right talent. What's your view on DEI and how much you are convinced that it's helping your organization? #dei #diversity #inclusiveness #google #meta #Amazon #apple #Uber #dell #Netflix
I dont care
I was at Google US and I can guarantee that bar was same for Software Engineers. We were instructed to keep our notes gender neutral
do you make the final hiring decisions?
No, I don't. I was just an interviewer. No idea what happens in hiring commitee
Should you assume everyone here knows the acronym?
Thanks. Just updated the title
With DEI shoved down throats of the corporate American workforce, at least those Blind users will know what it means.
My leadership is mostly white women all the way to EVP.
If they are talented and earned the promotion, it's great. My only concern is to promote just for the sake of showing the fair promotion by bringing Caucasian, Asian, African, men, women, LGBT into the leadership
I didn’t say anything about qualified or not. I’m not at the leadership to know how qualified they are to do their jobs. When you’re that high up in the org, things almost always automatically fall in place
I think the diversity questions I get asked during job applications are RACIST. like why the fuck do you wanna know if I’m straight or gay? Just hire me if I’m good and I’ll be whatever I want. Also if you look for talent you will find diversity naturally
It’s mandated in certain companies to help bring equity in the organizations. More representation from marginalized communities shows that companies care about uplifting LGBTQIA+ or minority communities that have been repressed
Wrong AmEx. It’s done to bring “equity” which is quite different from equality. It’s racism called by another name.
I like gender-diverse teams. Tech bros and LC grinders make me sad.
DEI is not a scam, but an MBA (I.e., mid to low grade IQ) vision of how diversity works.
One nice thing about DEI is it organizes an entire group of dead weight of low-hanging fruit for layoffs 👍
D and I are fine, but E “equity” is just racism based on Marxist ideology.
DEI is a scam where it's used as a political tool to get promoted and mask incompetence
