Curious how Data Science vs MLE interviews are. Assume senior level. I assume MLE is closer to SWE ie coding + behavioral + a domain knowledge interview? Need a Masters? Is this a better path if you are currently a SWE? For DS I assume you need a PHD and is more academic / research focused? Asking because I am reading the job description of both and it seems similar across companies unless the DS position is explicitly in a research team.
Mle will have ADS LC and system design rounds. DS will have very simple ads or even data manipulation LC round and a stat round. Both will have ML system design and behavioral rounds. These rounds might be called slightly different at different companies.
Is there any good prep course for the non coding parts? LC I assume is sufficient for the coding rounds (easy/medium)?
ML design - just case studies on YouTube is what I have seen. Will mostly be just your own knowledge. System design - there is a book everyone talks about here, designing data intensive applications and some blog or something, I think that one is by Alex Xu. LC - I would say mostly medium with some easy and very few hard will be fine.
Do people still want to work at Google ? Why
Nope, they are lining up to work at home depot instead.
Well, you will actually find a lot of people lining up at Home Depots looking for work.
Some DS positions are MLE ones. Some are BI, some are product analytics, some are statisticians. MLE is much better defined than DS. Is your question about ML-focused DS vs. MLE? There is a distinction there.
how would you define MLE then?
Writing production level code to implement the models in your current workflow. Less to do with research/testing models, more of implementation.
DS require sql MLE does not
I’ve been to both L6 DS and MLE interviews at Google (and Facebook). DS is very stats and probability focus, you are required to know a lot of stats theorems and ways of thinking. You will be tested on coding (LC easy type) and sql. MLE is a typical SWE interview with an ML round. Facebook DS is slightly more business case focus.

Core DS requires extensive knowledge and most companies demand research papers and PhD degrees.
Meanwhile Crore DS requires you to be named Rajesh
Lol better than the ckskr called Jon whose country would not work without Raj
