I’m currently new grad SWE at amazon and have recently got another offer as senior data scientist at a financial group. My present TC is 130K +bonus. I have not exact figures from other offer but they said they would most likely match it. I have close to 3 years experience in data science. Do you see moving from faang to financial firm, will be good choice in long run? What factors should I consider before making a decision?
DS are SWE's b*tches, so SWE all the way
You're at the beginning of your career. The only factor you should consider is whether you want to work in data science or not. Don't look at the title.
SWE comp is way higher at most companies. Data Scientist comp is only higher at a few companies. Your comp potential is better as a SWE. More recently companies are changing the Data Scientist name to Machine Learning Engineer so they can offer higher compensation. Stick with SWE. Also never leave a job for just "matching" your current TC. If your TC does not increase more than 40% then do not move. New Jobs come with alot of uncertainty and alot of starting over.
Sure SWE comp is higher level for level but moving up ranks is much easier in DS

Swe, data science is a dying field
How is Data Science a dying field? With AI really starting to take off, DS would be in more demand.
I am entry level-L4 SWE, on other hand senior data scientist. My concern here is won’t it take long for me to grow in swe compared to DS? Is it difficult to become DS manager from senior DS?
