Etsy recently announced RTO for New York employees. New hires are also Brokklyn only and will be asked to come to the office. It really sucks to upend your life just because some old fart wants to see employees in the office.
In person is better for the company. More collaboration
Itās not collaboration but tax breaks from city. Get a grip.
BS, collaboration is easier over slack
Because RTO will save a floundering company who has no more room for growth or upside. ( Ķ”Ā° ĶŹ Ķ”Ā°)
These wfh posts are getting really lame
Etsy has lot of incompetent leaders. So when they canāt figure how to grow the company they do tactics like collaboration, alignment etc. My bet is they will do another silent layoff with pip + rto. Rto will be extended to all employees which will force 10% staff to quit and another 10% will be removed through pip. Leadership became millionaires riding on handmade item sellers. It was a good ride, there wonāt be another pandemic so now itās time to tighten the belts and cut fat aka shmucks aka employees.

How did Sundar rise so quickly to become Google's CEO?
The city is giving them kickbacks so you can waste more of your money on things like subway and lir and restaurants... Etc
This is the best comment I've seen so far on this topic, not because kickbacks are not common knowledge, but because it doesn't engage with the so-called benefits like: - Junior engineers benefit from collaboration - In person collaboration is superior - Need talent concentration within a city - There are people that slack during WFH - ... Backers of each of these fall in the following buckets: - Purchased an expensive house near office - Not motivated enough, need pseudo-"adult" supervision to work hard - Can't self-learn, hand holding necessary - Misguided and have not done a real cost benefit analysis (test: see if after they are quizzed enough they end up in a No True Scotsman situation)
