Fed up of LinkedIn and faang in general(pip culture, politics etc) Have reached fire number , what do you think about going to a non tech company and a paycut to avoid toxic tech LinkedIn tc - 380 Non tech tc 225
I made this decision and left FAANG and love my job now. But accepting to live with lower TC has proven to be harder than I imagined.
How much of a paycut was yours? And why is it harder?
400K to 200K. I feel like I no longer have the freedom to do a lot of things I could do before without even thinking about it, like eating out, buying a better car, etc. But I really like the people I work with, and I don't feel constantly stressed anymore.
Third option: leave FAANG but stay in tech
Problem is faang culture (pip etc) is in most of tech.
I left LinkedIn to be at an easy going company. Almost a lateral pay move but I’m glad I got out of that sinking ship. Atleast there is no pip here I work 20-30 hours a week, just yearly layoffs which is becoming a normalcy everywhere. TC -$340K
Suck it up for a while then move
Why? Want to priority mental health and wellness.
I’m happier at Palo Alto Networks than I was at Google, and surprisingly my pay is basically the same as it was at G. I’m also learning more, and there’s a lot less BS (less office politics, less emphasis on “writing docs” as work, more actual impactful work and less existential dread that you’re highly paid to do nothing).
same and same. I can see myself taking an easier job and enjoying whats left of my prime now
I’m 35, and targeting to be where you are in the next 10-12 years. Move to a non-tech company then, coast and live life. I used to work in non-tech before and know I could be a rockstar with very little effort. Plus almost any non-tech or non-faang would hire most of us assuming market is favorable
Only leave if you’re not going to come back.
