Hello everyone, some background about me. I joined Amazon as a new grad last year and was put on Focus plan in February. I had tried to switch teams and when I told my manager he said I am already in Focus. This was kinda weird as my 1:1 were always positive. Also just got a raise and stock vesting adjustment that is equivalent to what HVs got. This reaffirmed my belief that I was put in Focus in retaliation. Well he didn't follow the LP of Earn Trust and I Showed Backbone and stopped working. I got multiple interviews and accepted one offer from Microsoft. A few weeks back my manager was promoted and I get a newbie manager. He has set up daily 1:1 with me to track the progress of my work. My tasks have just been carried forward since last 3-4 sprints with almost no progress. He has a doc which tracks what I do each day. Mostly filled with garbage that I spout out regarding blockers, errors and other shit. Will he PIP me soon? I can't wait to get PIPed and leave with severance. Amazon TC : 🍌🍌 Microsoft TC : 180k (counting 10% bonus)
“Well he didn't follow the LP of Earn Trust and I Showed Backbone and stopped working.”- lol 😝
Congrats dude!! 😎 offer for 1 yoe
Thanks!
Nice Microsoft TC for a semi new grad. Keep moving!
Is it worthwhile to jump ship every few years? My main goal is to maximize TC. I am just starting out my career and find LC type interviews easy.
It is definitely worthwhile until you have amassed a great deal of experience and maxxed out your 80% earning potential. Which means you still have like 5 more hops to do on the average. Hop well! Hop good!
leave before PIP.
Why?
Congratulations on the Microsoft offer. I think you could ask for set goals to achieve so that you can clear the coaching plan. That would be indirectly asking for a PIP. Be earnest and show that you're willing to do what it takes to improve your performance. However, if you ask for it with a grin on your face and a skip in your step, they'll figure out.
I do have some set goals. I keep extending their deadlines every sprint lol
Op what's your MS split? Congrats BTW. MSFT low balled me sometime ago with slightly higher number @ 200ish for L62 at 4.5 yoe after negotiation.
120k base / 40k signing over 2yrs / 120k stocks. I am including 10% annual bonus and since I max out my 401k, I include the match of 9.5k in the TC BTW
What is HV?
Highly valued
At this point just wait for pip document, collect severance and leave. Good luck at Microsoft. Looks like you were the smart one and got away before Amazon fucked you.

Sometimes I'm like wow Amazon's pip management culture sounds terrible, other times I'm like, pour one out for all these managers dealing with engineers actively trying to be fired
I feel you. I was a good performer in my team. I had been routinely working 12+ hrs daily since I joined. It just wasn't a match to my interests. If I was allowed to switch it would have been a bad record on my manager. He just found a scapegoat for his URA in me. Why should I trust him to get me out of Focus now?
Amazon manager's #1 job is to PIP people. OPs is being very cooperative, but they just want people to leave on their own to avoid paying severance. That's why you see a lot of horrors around people being harassed and bullied while on devplan, because that's the first thing they do to manage people out to achieve URA quota.
