Hey Blind, Anybody has insights into the Data science interview process at fb? It's product analytics (NOT ML) so I'm guessing technical chops in SQL are required. What's the first HM interview like? I have mine next week and per the recruiter will cover analytics and tech in an hour. Any prep material you'd recommend for the analysis portion? I'm good with the SQL portion, just nervous about the analysis round. Tc - 🥜 200k in Dallas Update 1: fkd up one of the tech rounds -> received a follow-up second chance and rocked it. Feedback on other 4 rounds were (2 very good and 2 "quite" good) Update 2: offer !! 😄 Thank you blind. Was able to negotiate a good deal. (Had competing offer) #data #dataanalytics #datascience #interview @facebook

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
200k TC sounds less!! what's your total YOE ?
Yes. It sucks 😔 ... 7 yoe
Probably not that less as the OP is in Texas. That's probably like 280-300 K in CA
Just completed my M1 loop: on-site was composed of 5x 1:1, 1 tech, 4 behavioral
How did it go ? what's your background and how did you get lead for this job ? I am finishing my masters in DS from Gtech and have 15+ years of experience - planning to start applying for such role now.
Still waiting for feedback. Tech interview was straight forward. Behavioral was so so. Very similar to LPs round at Amazon. A lot of : tell me a time when blabla. You can’t just answer with hypothetical answer, you have to come up with specific example. Hard if you only have 1-2 years of management experience. I initially applied for IC6, but they put me on M1 track
Thanks, Flo!Rida ! Any tips on answering the behavioral questions ?
Most likely questions you’ll get: 1/ how do you manage high/low performer. 2/ how do you manage conflict within/outside your team. 3/ tell me a time when you had to work under tight deadline. 4/ describe a project where you impacted the outcome. 5/ tell me a time when you had to make a unilateral decision 6/ tell me a time when you had to make a decision without having all the information 7/ tell me a time when you had a different opinion with someone, how did you end up moving forward?
I think the key here is to use specific example (if possible) and emphasize: empathy, feedback, team work, team recognition, good listener, openness, truthfulness, retrospect on your experience.
Thanks for all the tips… did you make it thru?
🤷 been almost a week - well I guess we can't count today since fb probably had other higher things to take care of !
Fyi - they get back after 10 days. Loop next week. 🤞
OP here - was thrown a horrible curveball that the interviewer said was one of the more difficult questions for the tech (SQL) round ... I couldn't solve it. Got to a long winded answer logic at the end and they said could see that "you can definitely code". Overall, pretty dejected. That was the round I was supposed to ace 😥. The 2 Analysis cases went very very well. Behaviorals are happening later in the week. However, I just don't see the point now since I didn't do the tech round well. 😣
Was also surprising that I was just asked that one question. When it was supposed to start easy and progress towards more difficult questions ... Feel so defeated. Praying 🙏 that they ask for a follow up tech round if all others seem good ...
Interview loop is full of BS. Bad luck, sorry to hear OP.
Either way ... I've given the other 4 my best shot - the product leadership was a fun round IMO. The analysis cases were also good rounds - although 30 min interviews do feel quite rushed to me. I've even mentioned to my recruiter that if given a second chance for the tech round I'll be sure to kick butt - she was very receptive of the idea 🤞
Can I DM you? I am trying to get an interview
Has FB changed their interview format? Seems the first technical round includes coding of basic statistics, modeling, visualization, etc (unlike previous interviews consisting mainly of sql problems). The analytical round will be a separate interview. Wondering how to prepare for the coding round (aside from SQL)..
For managers just one tech round in SQL. Remaining are cases and leadership rounds.
What was your final offer at fb??
~500k per year over 4 years (including target refresher of 138 per year).
500k stocks per year? What was the base like?
Just completed my DS manager on site (still waiting to hear back). I had a recruiting screen > call with hiring manager which was all behavioral and learning about the role > 45 min SQL/case analysis > on site I’m assuming you’re talking about the 45 min interview? I found the most helpful thing was to watch YouTube videos of mocks, there are a ton of resources. I outlined a process that made sense to me to make sure I hit on all the points and had that to reference during the call to keep me on track.
Same boat as op and interviewing for an M2 ds role. Do you by any chance remember what sql/analysis questions were asked
Don’t remember exact questions but fairly basic (aggregate functions and case statements, joins, maybe a sub query ) nothing tricky. The recruiter told me for manager levels they aren’t looking for perfect syntax, just that you understand the concepts enough to advise the people on your team.
