What schools would you recommend to look at for getting a masters in data science?
Data Scientist - do you guys usually have a Masters degree in Data Science, Math, CS or something similar? Is it necessary to have a degree to become a Data Scientist?
In my experience, most of the data scientists have a PhD in stats/maths/CS or something like that. Otherwise you start as an engineer and transition within the company. Perhaps startups might hire people with masters degree. You could search on LinkedIn for people with “data scientist” title and see what background they have or how they transitioned.
Just finished submitting my apps: My choices were Berkeley (part time remote), Stanford, u Chicago, NU, UW, Pratt Mix of reach schools and backup schools and all seemed focused on employment after graduating Harvard and MIT look great and seem top notch but didn’t want to be in Boston
Columbia has a great program
Preparing for Berkeley since it’s part time
Thoughts on data boot camps ?
Georgetown
University of Michigan has solid CS and Stats program with data science focus.
