This is my first time posting here, so please excuse any faux pas. I am bored with my job here in MS as a Data Scientist, I find it meaningless and it is very hard to make impact in general; getting actionable insights seem elusive and dealing with politics is really hard, at least in my team. I have been recently thinking about moving to healthcare and have prior background in this. Is there anyone in Apple, Verily, Google or in any other healthcare startup doing data science? It would be great to hear some of your experiences. Also, if anyone is willing to put in a referral, I'd highly appreciate it. Sorry if this seems weird to ask for referrals but at this point, I don't see much options. Thanks! TC:140 K. #datascience #healthcare #verily #apple #fitbit #noom
Check out Verily, Verb Surgical
Thanks, I didn't know about Verb Surgical. Will look into it.
Flatiron health maybe?
Do you have a geographic area you are interested in?
Yes, I am based in WA and am looking for opportunities only around here or possibly remote given current circumstances.
I'm not entirely sure why you've only listed those 3 companies, but I know it's pretty hard to get into Verily and the culture may not be the same as that with the rest of Google. There are several genome research and biotechnology companies, plus healthcare providers and research organizations that hire data scientists. Let's talk. I'm hiring for commerical analytics.
Thanks! I will DM you with my information.
Pretty sure our data sciences dept is hiring
Thanks! I just looked them up and will apply online.

How many books do you usually read in a year?
Welcome! Can’t help as I don’t work in healthcare...but wish you the best. May I DM you about MS? I actually want to love to MS for a DS role
DS is not so good at Microsoft. SDE's and PM's dominate here. DS/AS at Amazon is much better.
I second this. I haven't seen good roles across teams in Microsoft. Engineering mangers who hire for DS roles can be pretty clueless about data science. A few orgs. have centralized data science teams but most others have small teams embedded within an engineering team. PMs and SWEs get more priority. Promotions are harder to get because impact > effort and this matters because in DS, it is difficult to predict results in advance. Very frustrating. I would encourage other companies.
