I'm currently a data scientist/analyst (hard to box it in because I'm a one-man show). I'm currently a consultant working a consulting project, getting good experience with modern technologies, but the project and subject matter I'm becoming a SME on (in terms of business intelligence) is somewhat pigeon-holing... But I'm learning the subject matter while working with modern tools/technologies. I currently have an opportunity to move into financial planning/budgeting/forecasting as an analyst. My ultimate question is... What area is better? Stay on a project where you're learning/working on modern technologies but becoming a subject matter expert in business that doesn't translate to much of anything else... Or move to financial planning/budgeting/forecasting (which is internal to the company) where you might not be using cutting edge stuff, but you interface with more people (better networking and face time) as well as getting experience in an area that translates well to any corporation/business.? I've posted a poll, but feel free to leave comments explaining your opinion. TC: 175k #tech #finance #financialanalyst #consulting
Neither, find a way to influence a customer facing product. Until then your potential may not be fully realized.
