https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-10-24/microsoft-backed-databricks-is-said-to-plan-2021-stock-listing What would be the IPO Valuation? Looking at its number (https://techcrunch.com/2020/10/14/databricks-crossed-350m-run-rate-in-q3-up-from-200m-one-year-ago/), it's not as impressive as some cloud darlings like SnowFlakes, Crowdstrike, Datadog etc. in terms of Revenue growth at similar stage? #tech #databricks #snowflake #crowdstrike #datadog #google #facebook #linkedin
How does revenue compare exactly?
At IPO: Crowdstrike - Q2 2019 $20B market cap $384M run rate 103% YoY run rate growth Snowflake - Q3 2020 $70B market cap $292M run rate 152% YoY run rate growth Datadog - Q3 2019 $12B market cap $384M run rate 88% YoY run rate growth ---------------------------------- Databricks - ??? $??? market cap $350M+ run rate 75%+ YoY run rate growth
You guys should've taken that MSFT offer back then :) Anyways, in addition to your numbers above, there's 'how business critical' and stickiness. I'd compare Databricks with Elastic, rather than Snowflake. Best case multiples for Databricks would be MongoDB. Assuming 15-20x multiple on ARR, I'd say best case 7-8B valuation for Databricks.
Datadog was 82% growth YoY with $330M ARR at IPO which is pretty comparable to Databricks (75%+, $350M)
Cloud spending is accelerating these years, which makes Datadog’s number more impressive back then. Datadog IPO at 10B
I mean those datadog numbers are from Q3 2019...
IPO valuation is still a thing? Fundamental doesn’t work in this market anymore.
After Hertz tried to pull an IBO (Initial Bankruptcy Offering), anything is possible.
My team has been a client of both Databricks and Snowflake for 4 years now. Databricks will eventually eat Snowflake’s lunch. Snowflake has zero clue about machine learning and their tech isn’t built for it. Databricks gets it, and they have recently released an open-source version of Snowflake called Delta. It’s only a matter of time.
hey thanx for sharing. why do you say Snowflake has no clue about ML? any example?
Yeah I’m not sure I agree with this but I don’t want to have another lengthy discussion on this matter, let’s just see :)
As a user of Databricks and Snowflake, I don't comprehend these Billion $$$ valuations The software is definitely useful but not 'game changers'. Who comes up with these valuation amounts?
I recently joined databricks as solutions architect, I was told during the offer briefing that they expect a share price between $100 and $150, this would mean an evaluation between $15B and $20B
How can i buy stocks pre ipo?

Next unicorn will be memsql
We use both Databricks and Snowflake, we are one of the largest customers for both. Multiple thousands of daily users many Petabytes of data being analyzed. I’ve seen the extended roadmaps for both and both should be successful. Those of you saying Databricks will surpass Snowflake as a company don’t seem to understand the two companies goals. Snowflakes vision is massive and Databricks is much more targeted for specific use cases. Nothing wrong with either path.
I can assure you Databricks is targeting a much larger space . It's a unified analytics platform .. it's like set of technologies and tools used by Data Analyst, Data Engineer and Data Scientist under one umbrella..one stop shop for all your Data Analytics needs.. on cloud.. Isn't that a bigger vision enough?
Yes, I know, it’s quite smaller than the vision Snowflake is working towards. Databricks unified platform vision is great, but not in the same realm. We work directly with Databricks/Snowflake founders. Try to put what you think you know about Snowflake aside and truly listen to their messaging, it should click for you.

In this environment numbers do not matter. It's all about market perception for a company.
@qpyw55 Right... look at Tesla’s valuation
With FED intervention, true price discovery is not working. People fear inflation in day to day consumer items, but true inflation is occurring in assets such as stocks, real estate.
