I have a databricks offer. 185k and 70k stocks. I have 4 yoe. The ceo has been courting me (daily calls) for the last week or so. They just passed $100M in revenue and are looking for a late 2019 IPO. They also had a acquisition offer from IBM for $9B which they declined. Current TC is 210K. Should I take the offer
If you believe the information you mentioned... it's no brainier. Join it. There's 25k paycut but potential upside is huge..
What’s your background that’s so great to warrant daily calls at (I assume) L4? Are you ex-Cal?
Can you tell them to stop emailing me
Do you wish you’d responded? 😂
No, why would I. We have no use for their product.
joining a start-up right before IPO is the worst time to join the company. First, your grant price will be quite close to IPO price, so there will be no upside there. Even worse, the IPO price will be the peak price for awhile. A successful IPO shall maximize the profit of VC & founder. And help them to cash out 50% of their shares. Post-IPO, the stock price will at best stagnant for awhile. In terms of TC, there is no upside but downside to join a start-up that is very close to IPO.
Except when an appdynamics type event happens... In that case you've hit the jackpot
Yeah no. That wasn’t a jackpot by any means. Had friends who joined just before the ipo. Not much upside.
Looks at cldr and hdp for a hint of how their ipo will go.
not sure about you, but they should have taken the offer.
90 times revenue so low /s
Joining right before IPO isn’t a good idea
Yeah the ceo has time to court a lowly l4 from google with daily calls. R/thathappened
Shut up, they probably don't even call people at shitty companies like you even for interviews

Is life really better in the US?
70k worth of stock per year?
If the market continues like this, I dont think they will go ahead with IPO.
Exactly.
