Got offers for Databricks and Meta for new grad. TCs are as follows: Databricks: FY ~270K, recurring ~230K. The stock takes ~70K. Meta: FY ~240K, recurring ~190K. Might get refreshers(~30K?) after FY. Databricks seems have better job security, better brand, and team/engineering culture and it grows fast, but it doesn't support Green card process for F-1 visa. Not sure about promotion at Databricks, sounds competitive and hard. Also it's uncertain if it will go public and how stock will go. The team is very core. Facebook seems have better WLB compared to Databricks, easier promotion process (not sure for infra team), more friendly immigration policy. Also it uses C++ so it might be more transferable compared to Scala at Databricks. But the current stock price for Meta is at high. YOE: 0 Any insight is highly appreciated, thank you! #meta #databricks #offer #swe #preipo
Which team at databricks? Also ur not going to get gc support at meta
Go to Facebook, there's no money to be made for a new grad at databricks. Career progression is also slow. I honestly don't understand why L3/l4 would choose databricks over meta.
Maybe because new grad at databricks might get larger scope and bigger project? And there might be more chances to get in touch with / learn from more senior people since there are many high level people in the team?
It’s possible depending on team but you’d better be sure the team you’re going on has that. More often than not L3/L4 is working on tech debt and ops/support work. Promo is often slower than other places as a result. Databricks is great if you’re hired as a staff+ engineer. Wouldn’t recommend for levels lower than that.
I would take databricks. Congrats on the offers. How many YOE in India? Masters from US?
Thanks. No no prior FT experience and also not a master.
Wow. Bachelor's and on F1. People don't do that usually. Did you transfer after 2 years from India? Or in USA since start? How much did it cost you per year here
Isn’t Scala 🗑️?
Are you done?
No we are still migrating to Java
What's the TC breakdown for both? Looks like Meta is offering 50k sign on bonus and Databricks is offering 40k.
Congrats! When did you apply and interview for databricks
I have no idea what you mean in your TC break down
