Bay Area Daycare where I send my 2 year old keeps kids outside most of the time even in windy/cold weather. Also asked us to provide raincoat for rain because they said kids will be mostly outside even during rain. This seems frustrating because my kid gets sick with cold almost every other week because of this and they ask me to get COVID test done every time. Is this normal or should I find another daycare?
Don't know where you are, but very common here in Seattle area. Our 4 years old gets cold every 2 weeks, need to stay home 1 week and can return only with a negative covid test. It's very frustrating.
WTF .. how come you are tolerating this
1. Ask why they keep kid outside 2. Find another day care
Find another day care
The outside + all doors always open when inside is now the common policy to protect from covid. I see the logic but at times it makes zero sense, especially when the bay area filled with smoke, which is even worse than rain. I don't think they thought this through too well.
I had same issue many years ago too…. I read multiple studies that showed that keeping kids outside and letting them play in fresh air reduces viral/ bacterial infections . Kids get sick due to germs indoor and not the cold outdoor. Considering 9 months of Seattle rain… I think going outside to play is a good idea Just make sure you bundle kids well with right outdoor clothes/ gloves and shoes
Btw… most licensed daycare follow this in Seattle.
Purposefully chose a daycare where our kids would be outside more often than not. It rarely is raining so hard in Seattle or too cold to be outside and I don’t want them to grow up being soft and whinny. Also getting a cold is just due to being around a bunch of other children and all their germs, has nothing to do with being outside in the cold/rain, that is an easily disproved falsehood.
I’d rather my kid being playing outside. It’s the Bay Area dude, it’s not that cold. But a better coat
WTF I wouldn’t keep my kids in rain even with raincoat.
