OK, I do really well at the technical side of interviews and do the technical part of the job fine but I have bounced around a bit the past few years and after years and years at a big but old non-FANG tech company am finding a lot of newer silicon valley companies a bit tough from the culture fit side. I'm interviewing now and finding coming up with a narrative regarding my past couple of jobs tough, especially when what I want to say is "there was a lot of BS and I just wanted people to buzz off and let me build stuff already." yeah, I know a lot of the BS is part of the job. I've already had one top tier company recruiter tell me that the technical team loved what I had to say during the on-site but the manager didn't see a fit and I can totally see that happening several more times before I'm working again.
U have to say u r team player, always helping out and blah blah blah, even u have to lie sometimes

As a mngr, "there was a lot of BS and I just wanted people to buzz off and let me build things" is a huge red flag. You live and die as a team. No matter how rock star you think you are, an effective team will always out perform you. A good mngr would never risk their team for a rock star. You also shouldn't have to come up with a narrative. You should be able to speak to doing a good job despite values not meshing and recall still being an effective teammate. Not all jobs are perfect or warm and fuzzy, but your ability to talk about that like an adult and be a team member is what matters.
The BS wasn't coming from the team but from upstairs, and a generally incompatible set of processes. While I'm pretty grumpy right now, at an environment where people are able to work together effectively I tend to collaborate well.
