I don’t make insane money like most of you guys. My TC is $130k and I have almost 2 YOE. I am currently interviewing with FAANGs and have been grinding leetcode. I test drove the model 3 long range all wheel drive and just fell in love with it. No other car has that exhilarating factor and instant torque. Currently my 401k is maxed every year and I have around $45k in it. Roth IRA I have been maxing since I started work and it has $20k in it (due to growth, I have around $10k in principal). I save around $20k a year which goes into various investments but mainly VTSAX/VTIAX. Thinking of purchasing the long range model 3. Although it is a lot of money and a bit less than half my income. But also I’m in my early 20s so I feel that I should have a little fun in life? Idk would like wise opinions of Blind TC: $130k YOE: 2
I have a model 3 and I love it. What you want to do with your money is ultimately your decision, but sounds like you can afford it. Keep in mind though that current delivery times for model 3 is around 6 months because of the chip shortage, and the used cars market, as a result, is booming.
Are you going to buy Lucid when it comes out?
A lot of us here do have reservations, to get a spot in the line for later, but I don't know yet if I'll follow through. It's an awesome car but I'm not the kind of person to typically spend that much on a car... Maybe in a few years if the stock goes well. Problem is, I find the Air more awesome every day and get more and more tempted lol.
The fun aspect is a bonus. Teslas are great because you get to save money on gas and you get a good camera system
Definitely worth the buy if you intend to keep it for a long time. Bought mine when my TC was 95k in MCOL.
Dont think too much about it…if you think you can afford it then go for it…everyone has a different lifestyle…I had a great life when my TC was $180..I am stretched now with upwards of $300 TC…my point is you know your expenses better…
what lifestyle inflation was the cause? I feel like anything above 150k TC is basically excessive for my lifestyle, so curious what the shift was

Tesla model 3 and fun in the same line. It doesn't sound right.
I guess fun is subjective, but how long since you've been to either a track or the strip? Model 3 is super popular at both nowadays. Turn off the traction control and its like a tie fighter around the curves.
Don't do it. Build quality is bad for a $40k car. Wait for prices to come down as EV keeps ramping up. 80%+ of manufacturer are releasing new EV lines in 2022/2023 and they'll be discounted to compete with Tesla. Tesla will also likely drop their prices to remain competitive.
+1 on build quality
I believe TSLA is uniquely positioned to keep increasing the FSD price tag even if they drop the price on the vehicle itself to weather market competitors.
Buy it gas prices are going to kill us soon 😂
Got mine at TC 125. Driving experience is very good. You'll be very happy. Go ahead. Plus, sentry mode is one of the best things about security I like.
Did you get the LR or SR+?
You will need LR if you frequently go on long trips as there are few areas where you don't have good supercharger network, else you are fine with SR+ ...also supercharging breaks are not that bad .. you get 80% charge by the time you grab your coffee or lunch/dinner ...~ 20mins
Only if you know have easy access to a charging spot.
