Hi gang, I am happy to report that I received an offer with Amazon as a PM-T, but it's not with a cool line of business (not with AWS, Alexa, etc.). It's with a group called GES (Global Engineering Services) - Engineering, Planning, & Analytics (EP&A) division. I spoke with both the hiring manager and his main Sr. TPM and they both re-iterated how the team is big on growth and how they get to work on cool projects that are core to the business. The Sr. TPM said his experience was similiar to mine and that he got promoted from a L5 to a L6 in 1.5 years. So...here is my delimma. While, I am grateful for this opportunity, it is not my dream role within AWS (doing AI/ML). However, given that I am coming in externally, I don't want to loose this opportunity as my goal is to advance to a Sr. PM-T and eventually become a Principle PM-T. I heard that AWS is a unicorn in Amazon, and a person can supercharge their career by working as a PM-T in this organization. Here is my question. Would a person be "weakening" their PM-T career path by joining a sub-optimal team within Amazon? If I do stay with the GES group for 1.5 years, and get promoted to a Sr. PM-T (L6), could I still transfer internally to AWS? I guess my ultimate question is, should I decline this PM-T offer (in hand) for the hope of getting a PM-T offer with AWS? I should add that while I have been applying within the AWS group, I currently have NO interviews / offers in the pipeline.
What is offer and what is your current Tc
Take the offer and then move internally. I just accepted an L6 PM-T offer at amazon and based on all my conversations with current employees there its pretty easy to move. But i think / my guess is that you’ll have to put in at least a year in your current org.
Can a person grow as a PM-T in a NON-AWS group?
