Deep cleaning of teeth

Has anyone ever gotten scaling and root planing done? My doctor told me I need a deep cleaning and somehow I'm very hesitant to Believe. It sounds like a very painful procedure and I'm a person who gets serious anxiety just for a filling. Also any recommendations for a good dentist in Seattle?

I do it once every 2 years as it is allowed on my dental insurance. Seems painful, but isn’t actually because most dentists use local anesthesia. Makes your gums feel like new! The first time I did it was prior to getting braces years ago.

I feel like somehow my gums will get damaged, or maybe I've seen too many YouTube videos. Is there a recovery period associated with it?

Nope, typically I start eating food after 3-4 hours. The doc doesn’t mention this but I have something light after 3-4 hours and then have a normal supper.

Talk to another dentist too..sometimes in the us they just want to charge you more with deep cleaning that’s not needed (they can probably charge 5x normal cleaning)

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'm very New to US healthcare and don't fully trust it yet. Will seek second opinion. Thanks!

Dentists are like auto mechanics be completely aware anything to try to sell you cuz they typically need to pay some bills and use your mouth is a garden for cash

I paid $50 at my dentist for deep cleaning. 2 1 hour long sessions and as someone else mentioned local anesthesia. Can’t eat for 30m after due to rinsing with fluoride but I had no other problems...

Wow! That's sounds cheap. My dentist told me I'm looking at 500-600 plus since Amazon's insurance covers only half the mouth, if at all

McAfee JohnMcPee Feb 27, 2019

I lol’ed at “Amazon’s insurance covers only half the mouth” Frugal as fuck!

You are supposed to do it twice a year you nasty. Dental insurance covers it.

That's regular cleaning. Deep cleaning goes Below the gums

What the f @oinka. You dumb idiot. Can’t even read properly.

Why this is even useful?

Facebook onika Feb 27, 2019

Because plaque starts to form into tartar and it’s just very dirty and unclean. Also brushing and floss everyday is not enough. Otherwise, dentists won’t recommend you clean twice a year.

It’s actually less painful because they numb you

I go to Advanced Dentistry in Century Square building at 4th and Pike. Expensive dentist but the service is great. 👍 Did deep cleaning and did 2 sessions half of the mouth at a time. Like everyone else said anesthesia. Only annoying thing is I got tired of opening my mouth and I felt like I was drooling everywhere at the end.

Thanks! This is helpful..will check it out

Ask for nitrous. It can help you relax of you are anxious

Usually not covered by insurance like at all FYI

Microsoft Jarvis95 Feb 27, 2019

May be not covered. But it's like 40-50 bucks. Worth it if the alternative is not doing the cleaning due to anxiety

Get a waterpik?

Amazon bleh! OP Feb 27, 2019

Is it really good? I ordered one last night. Don't know whether to have expectations

Microsoft iiieeegemm Feb 27, 2019

Yes they are good you won't need to floss anymore

Intuit z9nkay Feb 27, 2019

You shouldn’t need deep cleaning unless you haven’t been taking care of your teeth or your gumline is receding.
