Currently L5@AWS, offered a Software Principal Engineer@Dell. How is the outlook of dell cloud? My understanding is they are targeting private cloud, trying to avoid head on with AWS in public cloud. What's the impact of principal at Dell? Is it similar to L6 at Amazon or L5 at Google/Facebook? TC: $180k base, 8% bonus, $90k stocks, and 30k sign on.
I have a feeling this'll turn out the same as Oracle bare metal cloud ๐ . Join as a mercenary - working for money, then quit after you've milked them for enough ๐
Nothing like oracle
I think there's a lot of interesting work we're trying to do in multicloud and cloud/onprem environments, vm/container integration, data mobility .. so I'm optimistic about this effort. (I'm in storage, not cloud but there's a decent amount of overlap)
It is similar to L4 at most (FB/Google). What surprised me that you are getting $90k stocks! Dell never gave stocks to new joiners in the last 3+ years. Wondering if this is changed..
W do when people have holding power and LTI in their previous company. We match it and sometimes give higher to match or beat the total comp
Location?
8% bonus seems way low when compared to the band at which your base is at... do you know which level you are being offered...
If youโre at AWS, Iโd recommend to stay there, Dellโs been changing the internal policies and management a lot lately, so many layoffs constantly. Coming from AWS to Dell wouldnโt be worth it
Stay at AWS. Dell is laying off recently. The total server market share in public could is going bigger than private cloud. Itโs a obviously trend according to IDC.
The layoffs are not targeting DTC ( Dell Technologies Cloud), which is a strategic direction and a good place to be in the company. With all that, I donโt think we are anywhere close to AWS cloud capabilities and vision . So it depends what are you looking for .
Excuse my ignorance though, but how does dell need to have a Dell Cloud services?
Same way Kodak needs a pharmaceutical business.
@yonq53 Dell is no longer a PC consumer only company. Do you know that Dell owns EMC and VMware? $25B Dell acquired $60B EMC in 2015-16. @Facebook_short Looks like your world is limited by companies other than FAANG likes companies? Your comment shows a lack of tech industry knowledge. BTW DellEMC is in the top 3 private cloud provider.
