What are your thoughts on the looming ~$67B deal? I've seen some EMC guys around Blind. What's the general attitude around the situation from your side?
I expect lots of layoffs on EMC side. Dell will become to big too large a company to navigate careers effectively.
I think we'll see significant layoffs on the Dell side as well which I'm guessing will begin with another VSP program before the end of the FY. In conflicts and senior leadership it appears EMC is winning battles and I worry that will transpire down the chain. Everyone I know on the Dell side is nervous.
I'm sure there will be layoffs on both sides, but remember while there is some portfolio overlap, there is a lot of products that don't. they also tend to cater to different market segments too. Lastly any major changes likely wont take place until Q2ish of 2017. Just stay visible, increase your skill sets (I'm getting my VCP soon) and wish for the best.
Career navigation is already so so random at Dell. I really wonder how it'll work with such a huge organization. I expect more layoffs on EMC side mainly due to the east coast cost factor
If any layoffs happen on the EMC side I'd think they would be likely to be inside sales as Dell has a strong inside sales group However I don't expect any, mass layoffs on either side at least in sales and support. At least not until they start to EOL some products.
For business I think it is a great buy. For the people not so much. I expect the market to be flooded with people looking for jobs around October. And culturally the companies couldn't be any further apart.
