You know what’s crazy? Dell has 140k employees. WTF is 6k layoffs going to do for their bottom dollar? 🤦🏽♂️
They just want to be cool.
I only eat fish that eat other fish
36% decline in PC shipments? This is not Google or Meta. Dell have never enjoyed the same margins and basically print damn money. I'm amazed the layoffs were not bigger.
Org?
gotta be tough for PC makers after Apple silicon
Honestly yeah. The people who are supposed to dislike ARM and Apple's SOCs (power users of legacy software, docker users) are lining up in my company to hand in their x86 machines. There's very few people I'd recommend anything else for right now.
I'm told MacBooks are just overpriced status symbols for the isheep lifestyle crowd. They don't even play games or benchmark the highest when plugged into a wall. Useless.
Save a couple million on the salary
Uh 6600 * rough average cost of 200k is like $1.3B in savings. Even if average cost was 150k that’s about a billion.
your math assumes that those employees provided 0 value as well though, you need to net out their projected contributions from your estimate
Per Bloomberg they brought the total employee count to 126.3 thousand which is lowest in 7 years. Dell to Cut About 6,650 Jobs, Battered by Plunging PC Sales https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-02-06/dell-dell-lays-off-about-6-650-employees-in-latest-tech-cuts
37% decline yoy? 2021 was an exceptional year for PC sales, so they likely hired a lot too
Actually no I posted the article above the work force will be lowest in 7 years. Their outlook this year is grim for pc sales
Dell is weird. They went on a hiring spree in 2019 that lasted into 2021 and were already quietly laying off in 2021-2022 while everyone else was overhiring.
Well if average comp is 100k that’s a 600M cost saving so quite a lot actually
Their 5G team seems to be hiring contractors all the time. Got a LinkedIn message even last Friday. 🧐
We already had a layoff few months back. This is second. Also most of the contractors have been laid off last month
Layoffs come in waves.
Those are some pretty big waves.
Almost as if they are artificially created waves
