I have three 45 mins interviews coming up for a Sr Consultant role at Deloitte. Anyone know what kind of interviews these are typically? And any pros/cons of working as a Sr Consultant at Deloitte?
These will most likely have a “culture fitness” (whether the interviewer likes you or not), and a Case (whether you have logical problem solving skills). Come prepared with questions of your own, try to create rapport, try to do a few cases before to be familiarized with what’s expected from a case framework (lots of youtube content on this. Search Victor Cheng)
Do you have an alternative option? I’d say keep interviewing
Why do you say so? I am interviewing at a couple of other places but Deloitte recruiter said the comp will be around 120k + 12% bonus for remote work vs other places require me to relocate to bay area (which will almost double my cost of living compared to my current city) with more or less same base.
Because I’d stay away from D lol if I have another alternative option I’d seriously consider it even with lower TC
Really not that bad depends on the team you work on that mostly defines your experience. But to answer your question and as an interviewer; this will depend on the position you apply for. There is a behavioral component like some mentioned that is a culture fit assessment. Then there is a technical component. This varies by position i.e. applying for a SWE v DS role will have different type of technical interview. The case interviews are used for undergrad hires and certain roles i.e. management consultant, M&A etc…
120k senior consultant is low. I was hired in 2018 for 145 with 17% max bonus with no consulting experience. I got to 150k year 2 and they were paying retention bonuses of 30k to people a few months after I left. They need people bad. Granted this was in a high demand software tool… but you should ask for more. Wouldn’t turn people away from Deloitte if they can’t get a better offer, but it was the hardest 2 years of work in my life. Super project dependent and there were 6 awesome months in there, 6 months of 80 hour weeks (working every Sunday) the rest were 60 hour weeks and 9pm CT calls for offshore. All this said I wouldn’t have the job I have now if it wasn’t for Deloitte. Learned a ton and got awesome exposure. Also I loved traveling, but COVID stopped that. The food, travel, pts, etc are actually the best part of the role imo. You can move around at any company to get a decent “consulting” experience if you’re good. Also the pay is nice if you live in a LCOL location. Pay in Seattle pays the same as Kansas City or Ohio, so if you live somewhere cheap it’s arguably better to make less at Deloitte than move to a more expensive city. There’s adjustments for NY and SF, but flat everywhere else i think.
When you were hired, what kind of experience did you have in non-consulting areas? Does a sr consultant-software engineer or developer type role pay more than a sr consultant in analytics role?

I am starting to think Chinese interviewers currently fail non-Chinese candidates on purpose.
Right now getting in has been the easiest ever. Just be confident and you’ll get the job. They are hiring anyone and everyone who’s applying because there is a big shortage of people. On the work side, you’ll get a lot of exposure but because of the current shortage of staff because of people leaving the firm in droves, except to work long hours.
How is travel? This role requires 50% travel. Is it too hectic with keeping up with work?
