It’s 5:47am and I still can’t sleep. I’ve been depressed and anxious since 2019 and COVID made it worse. I’ve been to couple therapies and they helped a bit. But every once in a while I feel like I’m back in the rabbit hole again. This has affected my life and my job a lot. Recently it’s been getting better but recovering fully seems very difficult to me. It’s a vicious cycle that my mental health and my job negatively influence each other constantly. Any advice would be appreciated #burnout #depression #mentalhealth
Do you worry a lot about everything? About what’s gonna happen in future? If so, then here’s my 2 cents. I used to overthink a lot about every little silly thing. That made me an anxious person. The solution is to live in NOW. Make sure your today is good. You have no control over future so why worry about it. Try to pick one thing at a time. DM me if you want to talk more.
Spend time on things which makes you happy. Spend time with family , play guitar or read books.
Haven’t seen my family for years because of visa and covid:(
If you have girl friend or wife or close friends you can spend time with them or video chat with family as that can be close alternative.
Bad manager or bad colleagues? Or bad work by itself?
Microsoft has the best culture atleast in terms of WLB and performance management. Not sure if anything can go wrong in that regard
Try some hobby activities, work out hard so u get tired and fall asleep soon.
Take few weeks off and go to mediation retreat. https://www.outsideonline.com/adventure-travel/destinations/best-meditation-retreats-us/
Do you take vacations off work?
I had went through these recently when everything I have planned went in vein due to pandemic. It felt like I am lost. I lost control over my work , my schedule, my life. On top of that I faced serious criticism due to poor performance in work. Even I was trying hard from 10am to 10pm, still I didn't get a positive feedback from my managers, this broke me so hard I really felt I know nothing. What I did : 1) Talked with many of my friends and family without thinking what will happen. This helped me reducing stress daily due to work. 2) Started writing my feelings on a paper every day. This helped me removing all negative thoughts and could feel bit better. 3) I have started learning something I was interested in without thinking if I can. This helped me diverting my attachment to my old thoughts and plan. 4) Kept me in well diet and sleep( listening budha and sadguru videos) . Mild exercise. 5) Gathered courage to give interview and ultimately got selected. 5) put paper and moved on. Life feels much better now. What I learned : Situation will pass if we don't take everything too seriously. Let the wind flow let the rain goes. Wait for the sun. Good days will come. This time too pass. Update - I Had a note on my wall " Take One Day at A Time". This helped me not worrying about future. God bless 🙏
Can you please share How writing can help reduce negativity ?
Writing helps you to express the pain in you to a from. This process makes you feel much better. Your emotions should come out of your brain. !!
First, Vacation Also find a therapist thru ur HR health line or help program they usually have. Companies are good at providing and accommodating this these days. I wish I would’ve taken up the chance earlier.
Don’t underestimate this advice. I know it may seem trite and over simplistic. I thought this way for the first 40 years of life. No vacation (and exercise) won’t solve the underlying condition. But it can give you some space and time to make the bigger changes, whatever they are, that are needed.
@Catsssss - I understand your pain. Please give yourself some slack. It will all be fine. As per me, the best thing you can do is understanding that most of us go through this pain and it is normal to feel stressed or anxious. Be kind to yourself. All the best.
What are you anxious about?
Job, relationships, family, covid
Solve 1 high priority problem first and then tackle the other ones. You can’t solve 4 all together.
